"A bruised reed He will not break..."

“A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench,  Till
He sends forth justice to victory.” Matt. 12:20

I have thought much about this verse lately... seeing one close to me completely broken has caused me to reflect upon our awesome God, His Word and all that He is... He is gracious and kind, loves beyond measure and He will not beat down what is already broken.

Our Heavenly Abba Father, gently touches this person and picks them up, holds them close to His chest, embraces them, gives encouragement and heals their brokenness. A state we must come to in order to see, hear and feel His magnificent tender touch! To know that He is God and nothing or no one can compare to His goodness. He nurtures, strengthens and creates a bond between Him and us that cannot be broken. This my friend, is the example of pure tender unconditional love.

A bruised reed is the picture of vulnerability and uselessness.   A healthy
reed might be used to make a wind instrument and deliver beautiful music
that will stir the heart and lift the soul. But not a bruised reed. A bruised
reed stands precariously vulnerable. The slightest touch or the softest wind
may cause it to break.

Smoking flax has no value. It should give off light or heat. It ought to
burn and bring comfort to others. But if it is smoking it will provide
neither light nor heat. The natural response to smoking flax is to snuff it
out. Most people would see no reason to let it burn.

Why not snap the bruised reed? Why not snuff the smoking flax? After all,
isn’t that what Darwinism and humanism teach? Survival of the fittest,
right? If an unborn child is believed to be defective, simply abort it. If
an elderly person has lived beyond her years of usefulness, euthanize. So
say many. But not Jesus.

Jesus Christ will not break the bruised reed. He will not quench the smoking
flax. His mission, His mindset is to bring healing, hope and help to those
in need. He does not regard your life as useless.Every crimson drop of His
blood cries out from Calvary , “You matter to Me!”

If you have never been a bruised reed, if you have never been wounded and
vulnerable, you will be – someday, somewhere, somehow, you will teeter in
the wind, tender and bruised. If you have never felt like smoking flax,
useless and without purpose, the day may come when you will. That is when
you will see the side of Jesus only the broken, bruised and abandoned souls
ever see. You will see Him in all of His tenderness, in all of His mercy and
grace. Listen, broken reed, He will never snap you. He will protect you. He
will give you the time and the power to heal. Smoking Flax, He will not
snuff you out. Instead, He will gently blow on you with the breath of hope
and life until there is a spark, a flicker, a flame that will burn more
brightly in your soul than any has ever burned before.

Jesus Christ specializes in bruised reeds and smoking candles. He
specializes in broken lives. The Great Physician has good medicine and will
dispense it with tender love and care to anyone who believes.

If you are broken, you aren't unnoticed. Our Father sees past what human eyes can, and knows the deepest parts of you as well as your needs. You aren't alone. Cry out to Him, He is waiting to comfort, heal and restore hope. There is HOPE in Him! Take that leap of faith and TRUST Him to see you through. He's waiting; are you willing?
